This
course describes the principle of power electronics, its switching nature, the
characteristics of different switching devices such as power diode, bipolar
junction transistor, and thyristor. It also contains the basic types of
converter topologies such as AC–DC rectifiers, DC–DC choppers, DC–AC inverters,
and AC–AC voltage controllers. The study of these converters includes circuit
topology, circuit waveforms, principle of operation, performance, methods of
control, and applications. Laboratory experimental
setup for different types of switching devices characteristics and converters
