The system of study at the institute consists of two stages:
First:
The period of study at the institute is three years. After graduating the student holds the title "third technician", and is hired at a sixth grade with special benefits.
During the years of study, the training and teaching of the student depends on his choice of major in the various departments at the Institute such as (Department of Electricity, Department of Electronics, Department of Automotives, Department of Minerals, and Department of Construction.)
The nature of the study at the institute is divided in to two shifts a week. The students spend the first half of the week at workshops and laboratories, and the second half of the week attending classes and lectures. In addition, the student spends a period of field training during the summer in several companies, ministries and factories. The student also has the opportunity to choose the suitable timing for him to attend the institute, either in the morning or in the evening, in order to accommodate and train the largest possible number of admitted students.
Second:
Fourth Year High School Equivalency:
In the year 2000, and after a thorough study in which a number of specialists in the field of education from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education in addition to a number of professors and people with expertise in the Institute's curriculum, it was decided to allow the students who completed their first three years with a general grade of no less than good to have the option of completing their studies for a fourth year and earn a Technical & Vocational High School Diploma equivalent to a high school degree in order to give them the opportunity to apply to universities or one of the colleges in the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, such as the College of Technological Studies and the College of Basic Education, in addition to the several institutes that admit the general certificate of secondary education such as: the Higher Institute for Telecommunications and the Higher Institute for Energy and the Constructional Training Institute.

Third:
New Specializations:
The administration of the institute in collaboration with the industrial sector introduced a new specialty training: a vehicle technician checker and is considered one of the divisions of the Department of Automotives.
This specialty accepts high school and industrial high school graduates and, the duration of the study is two years post high school The graduate student is later granted a diploma.
The student as well as studying automotive engineering, studies the various sciences and mathematical sciences related to the science of engineering as well as technical engineering drawing. This helps the graduating students to be able to examine and check the vehicles in a way that is universally applied and fills the void in this area, as well as bearing the stamp of quality in performance.
