In 1966, Kuwait has established the Institute of Telecommunications. Latterly, it has been followed by the establishment of the Civil Aviation Training Institute in 1968. The later, after a while, has been changed to the Institute of Air Navigation. In June 1986, the two institutes were merged together and started to be called as the Center of Telecommunications and Air Navigation (CTAN). In July 1993, CTAN has been renamed the Higher Institute of Telecommunications and navigation (HITN).

 

1966 The Institute was established under the name of the Telecommunications Training Institute, which was affiliated with the Ministry of Communications.

 

1968 The Air Navigation Institute was established under the umbrella of the General Administration of Civil Aviation.

1970 Computer Department was established at the Telecommunications Training Institute.

1970 The inauguration of the Institute under the patronage of the late Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, then Crown Prince.

 

1982 The General Authority for Applied Education and Training was established.

1986 The Telecommunications Training Institute and the Air Navigation Institute were merged under the umbrella of the General Authority for Applied Education and Training and became the Communications and Air Navigation Center.

1993 The name of the center was changed to become the Institute of Communications and Navigation.

 

1997 The Institute obtained the quality certificate of 9001 and became the first training institute to receive this certificate at the level of the region.

1999 The Department of Navigation obtained academic accreditation for its marine programs from the Australian Maritime College.

2008 The name of the Institute was changed to the Higher Institute of Communications and Navigation.

 

2010 The move to the new building of the Institute and the opening ceremony of the building under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

2011 Completion of the first stage of the complex of marine and air simulators.

2014 Provide the latest simulator in the field of computer crashes.

 

2014 Providing the latest laboratory in fiber optic field.

 

2014 Completion of the second phase of the Marine and Air Simulation Complex.

2015 Writing the vision, mission and values of the Institute.

2015 The Institute is accredited by the American Board of Engineering and Technology for ABET and ABET.

 

2016 Completion of the third stage of the complex of marine and air simulators, and thus the Institute has the latest marine navigation simulator complex in the world.

2017 Celebration of the Golden Jubilee on the establishment of the Institute.

2017 ISO 9001/2015 certification.

 

2017 Obtain academic accreditation from ABET for six training programs for computer and correspondence departments.

2017 Obtaining Academic Accreditation for the Air Surveillance Program from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
