This is the third English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course with 3-credit hours for the upper intermediate (B2-level) students in the Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) program.  Following the content and language integrated learning (CLIL) approach, this course teaches medical English to equip students with sufficient knowledge of the English language and contents of their specialization (i.e., nursing) in order to enable the students to succeed in their major field of study.  The course additionally aims to provide students with the English language that nurses need to think critically and communicate effectively in all essential situations at work, both with patients and with other healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the course incorporates medical topics as the thematic content of the language study including Neurology, Cardiology, Surgery, Urology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, and Obstetrics.  With a focus on developing students' communicative skills in English in a medical context, this English course aims to activate or enrich students' schemata of medical terminology (i.e., roots, prefixes, and suffixes), common abbreviations in patient notes or medical charts, and the relevant medical topics on chronic diseases and/or medical procedures.  Finally, the course emphasizes the development of students' academic writings skills including describing statistics, problem-and-solution essays, and research projects.
