This course focuses on nursing care of childbearing and child rearing families using nursing theories. Physiological, psychosocial factors, legal/ethical, cultural and educational considerations related to pregnancy, birth and children are included. Learning experiences are provided in the classroom. Clinical skills are provided in the laboratory. Practice in providing nursing care to families during each phase of the childbearing and rearing cycles occurs in obstetrics& gynecological wards, labor room, operation theatre, newborn care units and pediatric wards in selected hospitals. The nursing process to provide holistic nursing care to culturally diverse childbearing and child rearing clients is used with emphasis on primary, secondary and tertiary nursing interventions. Experience in client teaching is included.
