Head of Department Speech
It is my pleasure, along with my colleagues from the faculty in the Department of Civil Engineering Technology, to extend a warm welcome to you. The Department of Civil Engineering Technology was established in 1975 with the aim of providing specialized professionals in the field of civil engineering technology that keeps pace with modern advancements and meets the labor market needs in the State of Kuwait.
Since its establishment, the Department of Civil Engineering Technology has made steady progress towards achieving academic and practical excellence in line with its intended goals. The department offers three academic programs: Building Construction, Highway Engineering, and Surveying. In addition to the academic aspect, the department distinguishes itself through well-equipped laboratories and field training before graduation.
Civil engineering plays a pivotal role in the processes of development and progress, and there is a critical demand in the labor market for this specialization due to rapid economic growth. The Department of Civil Engineering Technology endeavors to keep up with the fast growth in building construction, highway engineering, and surveying by developing curricula and teaching techniques to meet the expectations of the labor market. The department also focuses on enhancing students' cognitive abilities and preparing them with both theoretical and practical skills to cultivate a qualified national workforce in various branches of civil engineering.
The department awards a diploma in three specializations: Building Construction, Highway Engineering, and Surveying. Upon the completion of 95 credit hours, equivalent to 75 study units, students engage in courses covering hydraulic engineering, soil mechanics, and architectural engineering, along with foundational courses offered in the first semester. The program's study plan spans five semesters, structured in a systematic and scientific progression from the introductory first semester to the fifth (graduation) semester. This includes practical field training in either building construction, highway engineering, or surveying.
