​This course discusses the latest trends in the analysis and representation of the content of digital / electronic documents, specifically in the context of categorising document content according to subject terms.  In addition, the topic of both general purpose and specialised subject heading classification systems are explored in depth, with a specific focus on the role of thesauri in designing subject term classification lists. Finally, this course discusses some well-known thesauri – such as ERIC – and best practice procedures for designing and executing information retrieval operations on databases.
