On behalf of my fellow members of the teaching and training staff, administrators and students of the Department of Library and Information Sciences - College of Basic Education - I am pleased to welcome you.

The department started in 1977 to award a diploma degree in librarianship. Later, in 1998, it turned into a bachelor's program to meet the needs of libraries and information centres in all sectors.

Due to Kuwait's belief in the importance of librarianship and the role of libraries in promoting the cultural and intellectual level in society, and as a result of the development of information and communication technology in the field of libraries, the department conducted a comprehensive review of the graduation curriculum to keep pace with the requirements of the labour market and to qualify graduates with the skills necessary to work in the field of information and its management.

In May 2017, the DLIS obtained its academic accreditation from "CILIP", the leading institution for professionals in the field of Library, Information and Knowledge Management in the British capital, London. This achievement is a testament to the compatibility of the courses offered by the department with international professional practices in the field and their fulfilment of the latest requirements through the skills and values that graduates acquire to practice their work efficiently.

From this standpoint, we all work in the department as one family to serve our students and provide the best for them.

Don't hesitate to contact us for your inquiries, and we hope to do everything we can to overcome any difficulties you face. May God grant us and you to serve our country, Kuwait.

Dr. Hanadi J. Buarki

Head of the Department
